Welcome to our web portal for prospective students

Are You Interested in Studying at the Department of Natural Sciences? - Welcome to our online portal!
On this site, you will find all the important information relating to the degree programmes offered by the Rheinbach Department of Natural Sciences. Among other things, you will be informed about the structure of our study programmes, the application procedure and various special offers to get to know our University.

You can enrol for the following degree programmes:

Furthermore, we are involved with the degree programme MSc Angewandte Polymerwissenschaften at the Aachen University of Applied Sciences.

We provide you with state-of-the-art, very well equipped laboratories, motivated staff and tutors in small learning groups. Our efficiently structured degree programmes enable you to study at a rapid pace, without any waiting times for laboratory and seminar places. Thus, you can make a quick start into professional life! Our graduates can get involved in a wide variety of future occupational fields, ranging from R & D to production - be it in the industrial sector, in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) or in public facilities.

Moreover, our international orientation is an excellent preparation for the increasingly globalised job market. Alternatively, our degrees may give you the opportunity to embark on an academic career. For further information on what our students and graduates have to say about us, please read the Testimonials.

In some classes, you can also get to know us personally; simply go to the site which shows our special offers to get to know our university.

We will also be happy to answer any questions you may have in a personal talk outside of these classes. Please simply contact our academic advisors.

The Department of Natural Sciences

Our deegree programmes:

Agarosegel

Kolben in der Chemie

BSc Applied Biology and MSc Biomedical Sciences:

Rendering the Invisible Visible
The genetic material (DNA) can be separated on an agarose gel. After having been treated with the chemical substance ethidium bromide, it becomes visible, fluorescing under the influence of UV light.

BSc Chemistry with Material Sciences:

Life without Chemistry? Impossible!
Be it toothpaste, colourants or components of spare-time equipment: chemists examine the composition of objects to develop substances with improved properties.

Zugprüfmaschine

The basics of scientific work …
Physics and measuring technology provide a general understanding of all scientific subjects. We focus on the conduction and independent implementation of experiments. In doing so, our students learn how to use a wide variety of measuring instruments and - techniques.

Developing and examining new materials …
On average, a bicycle contains 18 different types of plastics: while some of these are as hard as metal, others are soft. The characteristic values of materials, such as tensile strength, can be tested using such appliances as this tensile testing machine.

The following is also included in our programmes:

Pipetten

Flaschen

Neatly arranged …

These finely adjustable pipettes are lined up in a row. They enable the use of liquids in very small quantities. You also need to have good eyesight to still be able to recognise the pinhead-sized drops.

Recipes are not only used in kitchens …
At the beginning of many internships, solutions and chemical buffers are made precisely according to recipes. The liquids are filled into the omnipresent thick-walled bottles with the stable blue screw caps.

Protokolle

Kabelwirrwarr

A permanent companion
Colourful and varied: reports. Students are required to write such lab reports at an early stage of their degree programme, because the precise documentation of the processes and results of experiments is integral to many scientific fields of activity.

No need to be confused …
At first sight, studying can be rather confusing. However, our programmes are well organised, and the support and advice our students obtain from our Department’s dedicated staff also help in paving the way through the studies.

What we have to offer:

Studierende stellt SDS-Gel her

Studierende und Professor beim Betrachten eines Geles

Gaining your own experience
The high-quality, state-of-the art technological equipment in our laboratories enables each student to gain their own experience.

Discovering together
You are invited to go on a discovery trip with the tutor in small groups. - Should you have any problems in the laboratory, we will be happy to assist you.

Studierende im Labor

Studentinnen im Labor

Experiencing international life
Thanks to the daily coexistence of cultures in our internationally oriented degree programmes, our students practise their intercultural skills right from the beginning, which is an excellent preparation - not only for your study semester abroad.

A matter for men?
The fact that natural sciences are not reserved to men is well known to the female students enrolled in our University’s scientific degree programmes - just as it is taken for granted by the numerous female tutors and employees at the Department of Natural Sciences.
