The new University Council of the Bonn-Rhine-Sieg University of Applied Siences was officially appointed on 30 August 2007. The University Council is responsible for setting up the University's strategy; it provides advice to the Office of the President and monitors the way it conducts management. It officially appoints the President of the Bonn-Rhine-Sieg University of Applied Sciences and acts as the supervisory body over the administrative affairs.
According to the University Freedom Law (Hochschulfreiheitsgesetz, HFG) of the German federal state of North-Rhine-Westphalia, every university has to establish a university council. The eight members of the University Council of the Bonn-Rhine-Sieg University of Applied Sciences - i.e. four external and four internal members - received their letters of appointment from the North-Rhine Westphalian Minister of Science, Mr Pinkwart. Thus our University was the first in North-Rhine Westphalia to establish a University Council.
The University Council is responsible for all strategic matters relating to the University. It provides advice to the Office of the President and monitors the way the Office of the President conducts management. Furthermore, it appoints the President of the University of Applied Sciences and acts as his supervisory body. The University Freedom Law requires that the members of the University Council are or have been engaged in responsible positions in society, above all in academia, culture or business and industry, and that they have acquired the knowledge and experience necessary to make a contribution to achieving the objectives and fulfilling the duties of the University of Applied Sciences.
The eight voting members of the University Council include:

The Chairman is responsible for representing the University Council to University of Applied Sciences and the public.
The University Council convenes at least four times a year. Its meetings are not open to the public. However, the participating members of the Office of the President hold an advisory vote.
